"The Decision": Distracting From Social Justice

Thursday, July 8,2010 two major decisions were made and covered in the media. "The Decision" as titled by ESPN, was the much-hyped media coverage of NBA megastar LeBron James deciding his career fate as a free agent. James' epic decision to move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat drew the largest viewing audience in ESPN history ( 7.3% of homes in US watched)  Filled-to-the-brim with Vitamin Water advertisements, the hour-long special was an unprecedented display of power, influence, and control in marketing/advertising dollars and the NBA.

    
      Also, Thursday evening, former transit cop Johanes Mehserle was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for the brutal 2009 murder of Oscar Grant, an unarmed Black man. The incident sparked national attention as Grant was shot lying face-down and cuffed, on a subway platform, in front of millions, and was videotaped* by at least five people. The prosecution was unable to prove the higher charge of voluntary manslaughter, or that Mehserle's fear of Grant was "unreasonable." Instead, the lesser verdict was issued (carrying 2-4 years in prison) sentencing is set for August 6th.  Mehserle's excuse was mistaking his .40 caliber handgun for a Taser. Adam Server's essay credits the historic and deep-felt fear of the Black man as cause for the ruling and explanation of prosecution's inability to push for the higher charge. I agree, but feel the fear is completely misplaced. (Surprised no one pulled a "Time To Kill" on that smug racist cop. I kid. Kinda.)

 
     Young Black men are far too often the victims of (fatal) police brutality, yet the collective American public remains insensitive to the larger issue: Black life is not valued in our society. If an innocent Black man's videotaped murder (still) is not enough evidence for a full murder conviction nor elicit outrage from all races, then I'm at a loss to what must happen to affect our consciousness?!
    Oscar Grant is representative of young Black sons, brothers, fathers, husbands and friends in our communities. The lack of value for his life that fateful night in the subway station at the hands of a BART cop, is the same lack that guided the decision of 12 jurors -8 women, 4 men, none Black- to sentence a murderous cop with a lesser charge.

    The majority of conversation throughout Thursday centered around "The Decision." Not the Grant verdict, but King LeBron James' decision to jump teams. Seriously?? Everyone became a critic with an opinion, James was publicly ridiculed and several fans in Cleveland took to burning his former jersey in the streets. ERRR?!?!  Even majority owner of the Cavaliers Dan Gilbert posted a public letter of dissatisfaction that reads like the bitter slave owner of Kunta Kinte. *Racism just spills out like word vomit sometimes.*

It disgusts me that white citizens from Cleveland, Ohio were more outraged at a Black free agent's decision to head to Miami as opposed to an innocent Black man's murder. Citizens of Oakland protested on Thursday evening too, but the media choose to focus on the few looters and rioters. Careful to associate violence and barbaric behavior with...Black folk.*SIGH* WHATTHEJOEJACKSONHELL?!?!?!

    What is unfortunate is that young Blacks have greater odds becoming casualties, statistics or victims of racially charged violence, as witnessed in Oscar Grant's case, than becoming the next LeBron James. What is ironic is that in spite of having the world's attention on Thursday, the plight of police brutality (Oscar Grant) was never mentioned. I never thought it would, but imagine the impact if our public figures and athletes took grand stances against social injustice?! *Too much like right I know, but the thought made my heart pause with joy.*
In the following weeks, what will you do to fight social injustice? Aside from tweeting and provoking conversation, will you organize, register to vote, work to change laws that hold police accountable for murder? In the least, will you make a "Decision", or an effort to avoid the media's distractions and focus on the truth, OUR daily realities? I will surely keep trying.

**Oscar Grant's MURDER. Not suitable for weak stomachs or anyone with a soul.**

 A certified superstar, Alicia Keys has been a commercial success since 2001. Keys is blessed with a stunning physique which has garnered attention from the onset of her career. A gorgeous and talented vocalist/musician, she appeals to women through her empowering lyrics, and men with her evident sex appeal. Nine years later, Keys now has acting, songwriting, production and endorsement credits, but prides herself (and BRAND) on her numerous humanitarian efforts and promoting self-esteem in young women. On paper, she reads like the classic Black female role model, but reality is... her character is WEAK.

The facts are rather simple. Swizz Beatz was married to Mashonda and during the course of their marriage he cheated with A.Keys. Mashonda found out, was woman enough to approach Keys asking her to respectfully step aside (as reported by Mashonda), but Keys did not comply. She and Swizz continued with their public affair.
Sunday night's *EBTAwards Show placed Keys and fiance` Swizz Beatz in the front row with a permanent camera on the "loving couple", and I was shocked! I was floored when she accepted her first award (she won 2) and was extra affectionate in the camera, as most know the story behind the smiles. Then, she performed. TWICE. *le sigh*

I felt the EBTAwards performances were disturbing, because A.Keys was the physical manifestation of hypocrisy, adultery, and tastelessness. Her desire to perform while 5 months pregnant with a (technically still) married man's child, the decision to rock the Dolce Gabana minidress that accentuates her fetus-bump, and finally choosing to jump atop a baby grand piano during the second set (WHYLAWD), all proved Keys lacks class. It was as if her public figure status or celebrity accolades should omit her from judgement or "Maury"guest status, when in fact just the opposite was clear. Parading your baby by a married man is trifling and lacks noble decency. Period. Keys could care less about the mixed messages presented that evening, and had the support of BET to document the entire spectacle. As a Black woman/ fellow sistah, I don't respect her decisions.

To clarify, I see nothing wrong with showcasing the beauty that is a pregnant woman's body and tasteful representations do not offend or disgust me (See Vanity Fair Pic of Demi Moore-1st marriage, 2nd child). I overstand that (most) marriages don't often work out, and that people move on and find new loves. What I refuse to support however is infidelity passed off as "okay" simply because the couple is famous, rich or attractive. Keys' pregnant image is broadcast the world over, and it only takes a few clicks on the Internet to read the back story of her conception. Keys, who penned and profited of such female anthems as, "A Woman's Worth," "Unbreakable," "Superwoman," and "Karma."As a people, we continue to promote what is indecent, and ridicule what is righteous.

This is further evidenced by the many supporters of Keys' affair and demonization of Mashonda, a wife with a cheating husband that left her. Mashonda is the victim in the situation. If a man cheats on his wife, then commits to leave the marriage for the affair all before the divorce settlement smoke clears, he's not a real man. Sowwwy. Marriage in general is not valued as it once was, but that does not negate that two people were legally joined and a third party aided the dissolve. The media, or EBT rather, would have us all believe that Keys & Swizz Beatz are the new hip-hop power couple. #WHATTHEJOEJACKSONHELL??

       Women in general should bond together in an effort of solidarity, to support one another in a world clearly controlled by men. Black females in particular need that sisterhood in order to deal with the daily tribulations and cultural struggles indicative to our communities, relationships, jobs and careers. Everyone (even Keys) knows sisterhood is severed if a married man does not deter you from pursuing a relationship. Only a general lack of respect for one another would allow the celebration of that which is indecent in our community and culture. This sad mentality is popular, folks are quick to critique the Black wife (Mashonda) for not "keeping her man." Few people mention the disrespect shown by Keys on Sunday night. I wish them all the best, but do not believe or support A. Keys' music, "empowerment" message, or relationship. I am my sistah's keeper.

Not Bad At All... Not At ALL: BET AWARDS 2010

         It's that time again, when everyone in Black America huddles around their flat screen, Internet, and Twitter accounts to discuss the performances, hits and misses of BET's Annual Coon Awards! This year, Twitter maven @Freshalina dubbed the event the #EBTAwards. So, per usual I've wrapped up the may-jah highlights in my annual wrap-up!
KEY POINTS:
Kanye West's Show Opener- Kanyizzle opened with his new single "Power", and rapped the whole set atop a mountain with a staff, 80's chain ( 10 times the opulence & size) around his neck, and a moving background.  A DOPE throwback to real MCing, I was thrilled Ye silenced all haters!
Queen Latifah Failing As Host-*Deep Sigh* Now, Queen may be talented in acting and singing (no comment, as I remain underwhelmed) but hosting is not her forte. Viewers had to suffer through her awkward readings of the teleprompter, a musical opening that lasted way too long, and too many irrelevant/incoherent costume changes throughout the night, I really wanted to scream, "LA! Sit your ARSE DOWN!!"
Diddy's Dirty Money Crew- A surprisingly energizing performance!!! That is, if you could see anything through the excessive smoke... *cough*  Yea. Ya boi Diddy went too far demanding smoke and pyrotechnics, so the audience had audio & thick fog for half the performance. Ricky Rawse, draped in all 50 chains owned in life, a too small Hanes that showcased his breasts, and of course a large jacket, lip-synced his verse on the remix. Nikki Minaj came out in a vinyl cat suit and lip-synched her verse (lookin like one of the daum Incredibles). Seemed like Bad Boy circa 1994 was onstage for a min.with all the dancers and the Dirty Money Trannies looking like Total 2.0. Well done Diddy! Held my attention...
Chris "BeatHerDown" Brown's Michael Jackson Tribute- With an intro from Jermaine "Crazy Hair" Jackson that omitted Chris' name ("Here "HE" is...") Breezy shut EVERYONE UP with one set!!!! His dancing-flawless, song selctions-perfect, and when he closed with "Man In The Mirror", he was so overcome with emotion that he had a breakdown. In front. of MILLIONS!!! GENIUS!!!! Now staged or otherwise, it was BRILLIANT PR that solidified who the most talented is right now, and inspite of personal feelings... it's BREEZY!!! I'm no longer a cynic, and am on the bandwagon that is C.Breezy's comeback. Surely his career is on FI-YAH this morning. Oh, and I predict this is the last year of Trey Songz' mediocre run as Breezy will eclipse Trey's crossover attempt. Yea. I said it.
The Prince Tribute- Um... well, it was for Prince! Janelle Monet opened the set with "Let's Go Crazy" and it was CLASSIC Janelle mixed w. James Brown!!! She danced wildly all over the stage, pompadour-a-flying, screeched her heart out and almost split her lil' tuxedo pants!! LOVED it! Jazz singer Esporanza Spaulding followed, singing, "If I Was Your Girlfriend", but she and her standing bass about put me to sleep. Surely she's better in different venues, but honeychile this was NOT your night. Sowwy. A Keys, dirtying the name of pregnant women everywhere, had the nerve to play "Adore" on the Baby Grand barefoot, then writhe her big @$$ on top of the piano to further gyrate?! Even PRINCE gave her the, "Bish, if your water breaks on MY account," look that should've slowed her down. Oh no. She kept slanging her hair and pumping her belly. She lost all my respect last night. Patti Patti closed the set kicking off her Loubitons (Prince caught one) taking everyone home with "Purple Rain." Prince  accepted his award clad in a tunic with his face painted in Crayola watercolors (whatthehellman?!), white bell bottoms, and 5-inch white boots. He's still the most beautiful being in the whole theatre. He did not perform, which was the crushing letdown of the night. I assume he's too good for EBT, and I honestly can't blame him...
John Legend's Humanitarian  Speech- Most may have overlooked, but Legend, in spite of his elusive hairline, gave one of the most impactful speeches. Ever. Essentially, he said Black celebrities aren't' doing nearly enough in the US or abroad,and that we all should focus on education reform and empowering our communities. I'm looking for the full transcript to post, but it was BEASTLY. TRUST. KU-DOS John!!! (See someone about that hairline please sir, thanks!)
Other Perfomances:
*Ursher's "There Goes My Baby" -smooth yet he had trouble hitting his falsetto
*T.I.'s "Takers" (Motion picture theme song) amped comeback performance featuring Travis Barker on drums. His first time back and the crowd went crazy.
*Drizzle's "Over" featuring a surprise appearance from Jeezy to remix to "Loose My Mind." A great performance that was articulate and fresh! Both artists looked clean in their too-tight jackets.
*BOB rapped "Airplanes" featuring Keyshia Cole- screeching the hook clad in a blond, arse-length mullet.
*El Debarge (MY FAVORITE) *SWOON*- Randomly appeared behind a piano and slayed the house w. a medley of some of his memorable hits. He sounded. The. Exact. Same. DAUM.
* Kirk Franklin's "Haiti Song"- included gospel greats like Karen Sheard and Yolanda "Christian Home wrecker" Adams. Nice job!
*A Keys' solo Performance (and double win) where she sounded great but looked a pregnant fool. I refuse to endorse her rubbing her belly, gyrating across the stage in an attempt to look "sexx-sy". Save it for Swizz, cause aintnobodywannaseethatish. Tacky. In. The. Least.
*Trey Songz "Your Side Of the Bed/ Purple Rain" ERR?? Worst performance of the night. Hands down. Trey sounded like a nervous goat, wasn't entertaining simply standing onstage, and once he tried Purple Rain, Prince shot him the deathly *Side eye* verifying he was stinkin up the stage.
*DJ Khaled "All I Do Is Win"- Closed the night with Busta (overweight & happy to be seen), Ludacris (with violinists & a phantom mask), Diddy (of course), Rawse (One more time for ALL his jewels), and a chunky yet energetic T-Pain. Oh, and Tommy Lee was on drums adding to the spectacle.

*Nikki Manaj's fashion choices & Firefox wig. *Fingers to temple* I can't.
*#WHATTHEJOEJACKSONHELL did Deborah Lee have ON?!?! EVERY YEAR this broad embarrasses a PEOPLE with her RIDICULOUS fashion choices?!? She has no friends, no stylists, and everyone must hate her as witnessed in her appearance. I can't.
      This year's show was chalk-full of decent performances , so much so that I can barely remember who won what (it matters not). Bottom line: several stars had GREAT comeback performances, Chris Brown is BACK, and BET did not totally shame us! In fact, minus a few suspect performances and poor selection of hosts (I won't even START on how embarrassingly drunk everyone appeared at the "After Party"), I'd rate this show a 7.5 out of 10. I'd watch pieces again, and was glad I tuned in last night.  Hell, I tune in every year just to critique the debauchery that's the EBT oops! BET Awards.

When A Policeman Punches Young Sapphire-Who Do We Call??

      A Seattle police officer (white) was videotiaped punching a young woman (17-years old) in the face post resisting arrest. Allegedly the officer was in the midst of detaining J Walkers, when the two young Black women were seen J Walking on the exact same intersection. In Seattle Washington, J Walking is deemed a serious offense (#WhattheJoeJackSonHELL) so the officer was performing within his job role when he asked the women to come to his vehicle. When he tries to reprimand them, the ladies curse him out and one tries to walk away. The officer then tries to physically detain them and one young lady pushes the officer. Clearly the officer becomess immediately frustrated and after wrestling with the ladies for a few seconds he punches one in the face. *PAUSE*
       The ladies' behavior is rather shocking, as we live in a country where the first offense is simply being Black and teach our children how to "interact" with crazed racist cops on a regular basis. Striking an officer was a bold move that did not end well-as evidenced in the videotape. Granted, the two women were provoking the officer, one arguably violent when she pushed the officer, but were there no other options to gain order? The officer doesn't think twice- he is immediately reactive and punches a minor in the face. Why was that his first reaction? 
       Had the two young women been white, I don't believe this instance would have ever happened. I imagine the officer would've politely walked over and presented the ladies with a warning as their safety is ultimately at risk when J Walking. The fact that these two women were Black, and *le sigh* unfortunately acting in the stereotypical *aggressive Black girl manor, will only give the officer more validity to justify his actions when investigated...for he felt "threatened." Ah yes, the standby excuse most culturally-limited white people use whenever a Black person becomes "loud", or resists (even if legal and controlled) the status quo as deemed by white society. WE are always the provokers and what happens to US, usually at the hands of law enforcement, is our own consequence.
     Unfortunately, I don't subscribe to that bullocks rhetoric as I feel passionately that law enforcement, above all else should seek to protect the people and not act solely on the defense treating minorities like animals. WHERE are the sensitivity training and cultural diversity courses for officers? Where were his attempts to verbally subdue a minor? This instance was in no way complete police brutality, or worthy of NAACP coverage. However, I found it worthy of discussion if only to consider the images we present in public, how they will quickly react and of course...how to properly conduct oneself in the presence of a... (high school graduate that probably wasn't socially accepted now armed with a gun, tazor, billy club & racist thoughts) police officer.
Marinate on it for a min...

BLACK WOMEN:SLIM THUG WANTS YOU TO KNOW...!!!!!!!! (I cant.)

   In what I would deem poor judgement on the creative and editing floor followed by lazy and underwhelming journalism, Vibe.com started a mini wildfire when they posted this "article" by Houston rapper Slim Thug.  Several disturbing factors passed off as Slim's opinion throughout the write-up made me pause. I was so ticked... I decided to blog about it. *Fingers to the temple & deeeep sigh*

1. WHEN did SLIM THUGG become a relationship expert credible to critique Black relationships?!
#WhattheJoeJacksonhell?!?! His most publicized relationship was with (ex-Destiny's Child member/ Beyaki nemesis) Letoya Luckett, and that allegedly ended because he cheated and procreated with his cousin. He has never been married, is not on-record as having any said degree in psychology or human behavior... I don't even think he's had a relevant hit single since 2005. So, I'm lost as to why he was even chosen as the latest gimp in the "BW Need To Do Better, Aim Lower To Get A Man v. 2010" debate.
2. Discussing all Black women in such general negative terms is a clear sign of self hatred. Seriously. Slim, your mother, sister, cousins, hell, even one of your baby's mother's is a Black woman. The rest of the world often struggles to decipher differences amongst Brown women as the media tends to lump us together. Slim describing Black women as gold-diggers with high standards that fail to silently submit to idiot demands of rappers (named "Slim Thug" that still rock cornrows past the age of 35 even in 2010?!?) in no circle would pass as an accurate depiction of US. *Pause* Apologies, "SimThugga" was not nearly that eloquent when attempting to describe his opinion. His chosen buffoonery:
  "It’s hard to trust a Black woman [sometimes] because a lot of Black women’s mind frame is that the man gotta do everything for her⎯ he gotta pay for this, he gotta pay for that, and if it ain’t about money then a lot of them ain’t fucking with him. If that’s what you’re here for then I don’t want to be with you."

3. Yet another Black man (or anyone for that matter) insists on telling Black women our standards are too high.
   "Most single Black women feel like they don’t want to settle for less. Their standards are too high right now. They have to understand that successful Black men are kind of extinct. We’re important. It’s hard to find us so Black women have to bow down and let it be known that they gotta start working hard; they gotta start cooking and being down for they man more."
Excuse me sir. WHY would you advise any woman, much less the strong BLACK WOMAN to settle for less?!?! It is this lazy mentality that really enraged me for clearly he does not recognize the daily struggles, accomplishments, achievements and even tribulations that comprise life- nor any reverence for the graceful way we excel at every. Aspect. Of. Life. We raise the babies in the single parent homes, educate the community as public school systems are on the decline, obtain multiple degrees and thrive in our respective careers, all in a society that has devalued while benefiting from our feminine power for centuries. The Black woman is the most "down", and it often is to our detriment as many Black men aren't mature enough to reciprocate on spiritual, emotional, and financial levels. Marinate on that for a min.
4. Slim had the audacity to compare Black women with "others" namely, white women as he prefers their docile nature over our hard-work (in his opinion). "White women treat they man like a king and Black women feel like they ain’t gotta do that shit. Black women need to stand by their man more. Don’t always put the pressure of if I’m fucking with you, you gotta buy me this and that."
*le sigh*. Really Slim?? Really?? If that is your limited and emasculating experience with white women, that actually sheds a crack of light. No real man would want a woman who was not equally yoked as it would eclipse the totality of what he could become! If you hate on the progressive Black woman, you're hindering yourself. *Message!*
    His ignorance is reverbed by young men with limited thinking and that is the real impact hence root of frustration. As Vibe.com lent Slim this opportunity, impressionable people can take from it and attempt to validate their ridiculous opinions with this piss poor article. I am more than comfortable with the fact that I, nor any woman I hope to ever call sistah (no matter her race) would NOT be the woman fit for Slimm Thug.  I hope he finds this senseless concubine with no self-worth as he described he desired. That way, he could sit his arse down, remain irrelevant and prayerfully, *Smokey from Friday voice* never. Ever ever ever. Ever ever EVER consent to an interview about Black woman for the rest of his life. Now... will all my REAL men, please stand up??

HEAUX-DOM DOES NOT EQUATE TO VIOLENT ATTACKS

 KAT STACKS CAN'T CATCH A BREAK-"Kat Stacks" was videotaped last week getting punched in the face and ridiculed by two-men at a lounge off Peters St. in Atlanta, GA.  I really wasn't going to comment on the foolery. But with all the Twitter commentary (still), and her resurfacing the other night (June 1-FreddyO.com) in AtL, I just couldn't resist. Allegedly folks in Atlanta have issue with her walking the street, buying drinks, and well, living. So, for those Amish folk that may have missed it, a quick background of what happened.
        *Kat Stacks is an under-21 year old female who is known for having sex with several C/D-list rappers, then creating an illiterate blog and disturbing viral video where she "exposes" her trysts to whomever can stomach her entire bootleged "Heaux Confessions." When she first appeared I was intrigued if only for a second, because I have a deep affinity for women of color who perpetuate all modern aspects of the "Jezebel" script-one of four (4) traditional media images relegated to depict Black females since chattel slavery. Modern aspects and examples vary from stripping, and prostitution to the "hottest" female rapper and video chicks. However...Superhead...Kat. is. not.

      The basic elements of last week's attack are simple. Two men approached Kat Stacks while seated and minding her business at the bar. One man is video recording the entire process, they both call her to turn around, and the other sucker punches her in the face. Once Kat hits the floor, another mush to the face is given while they further taunt and disrespect her. The most memorable and incriminating line now repeated across the 'Net is, "Say sorry! Say Sorry to Shad! Say 'SORRY BOW WOW!'"

       Kat Stacks is a female-no matter her moral character, sexual history, partners, often questionable appearance or limited vocabulary. She is a WOMAN. Her attackers in the video were men, well, immature boys, weigh more and have penises. Hitting females is wrong. That is how it will always be judged in my book because men have a physical advantage and were designed to protect. Period. A real man walks away, takes the high road, files a lawsuit or Son's you (you know, the verbal smack down only a strong man can give that makes you think, "well daum! Yessir!"). The display in the video is appalling. The men (or at least one) must have been really close with Shad because tracking down a female (an admitted Heaux for that matter) in public to administer a "smack-down" based on what she said about your "man" BowWow is borderline crime of passion/ homoerotic territory. Seriously. I don't know any of my strait male friends that would care that much about a woman's sexcapades with their friend to entertain bar-smacking fcukery.
          Since the tapes release last week, I have yet to hear about any charges being brought against the two attackers, but I have seen horrible jokes about Kat deserving what she got, or listened to other women tear Kat down worse than the men. Which perplexes me as it speaks to a larger issue of giving sympathy passes and paying more attention when domestic violence happens to pop culture's beautiful "Virginal" or "good"sexual scripts but could care less when the "Jezebel" or females with "bad" sexual imaging are abused. A decent example would be how the public rallied around Princess RiRi during her attack (granted, Chris beat-her-down went HAM and was convicted) but Kat Stacks' attack was filmed in public and not a naan onlooker cried out in protest, ran to assist the woman or ridiculed the men for their ridiculous behavior. That is not right to me. At all. The only reason every one's is upset with Kat that I can validate is that she choose to be promiscuous then spoke her truth on that tacky viral video. (Still not sure about this daum Kat Stacks Confessional. Kid Fury broke. It. Down.) It's clear that Kat Stacks needs serious professional help, and to publicly beat on her seems cruel and inhumane. Even taunting her when she returned to Atlanta this week is too immature for further commentary. What do you think? Consider if the female involved wasn't an attention seeker, but just a highly sexual female with a big mouth. Like a young high school student. Still think this behavior is hilarious??? I think if you stopped laughing to consider the ramifications, that maybe the next time some young women you know could be the next victim of such barbaric, cowardly, bitch-arse behavior, jokes would stop, and charges would be pressed.

Sex And The City: A LIFESTYLE!! Why I'm Hopelessly Devoted

It's the weekend when women everywhere storm movie theatres to catch the much anticipated SEX AND THE CITY 2!!!!!! I decided to list why I'm so devoted, as well as further encourage you to see the film of the summer.

WHY I ADORE SATC-
      My love for the show began during season one, when an immediate connection was formed. I was a 17 year-old Junior in High School living in lil' ol' Chester, VA and probably the farthest example from  the show's main character, Carrie Bradshaw. Carrie Bradshaw. The writer in Manhattan, NY living the fashionable, chic, fast-paced, date-filled, sexually-charged life whilst in her 30's. Soon after my affair began, I got my Ma, friends, and sistah/family members hooked weekly to HBO, living vicariously through the ever-fabulous Carrie and her four amazing friends.
      It wasn't just the excellent writing- a feat that has yet to be duplicated on any television sitcom for that matter IMO- witty and powerful, forcing me to quote dialogue from ALL episodes recorded. It wasn't just the fashion- the first of its kind to delve completely into the worlds of couture, urban fashion, and affordable retail, making designers household names and blending all fashion and style elements effortlessly. Such was the genius of Patricia Field, who excelled at her job so (costume designer/creative muse) the fashion was considered he 6th cast member! It wasn't just the fact that every episode, movie, book and aspect of the brand spoke to the valued importance of sisterhood and maintaining friendships in spite of life's obstacles. A recurring theme in  popular culture, the strong message in the 80's during the "Golden Girls" era of television sitcoms was perfected during the 2000's by "Sex And The City."
       Women around the world no matter their color or cultural difference can relate to this major theme as errrrrrryone has life and male issues but if you are truly blessed have a girlfriend or two you can share triumphs, tragedy, gain support from and be supportive of. No, I don't think that it is any one of these four major points but the myriad of them all each having more relevance at whatever stage of my life or crazy experience I deal with in my twenty-sexxxy reality. Throughout Undergrad, popping in SATC DVDs and bonding with my girls on Sunday nights, strengthened some of the best friendships I still maintain to this day. When irritated by a man (how often does THAT happen) I can pop in my SATC and the ladies' experiences make me die with laughter at the similarities, parallels and even unimaginable comedy that is dating.
BEAT THE MASSES TO THE PUNCH-
      I was fortunate to catch a Tuesday evening screening of the film at Phipps Plaza, as well as a Wednesday night screening at Atlantic Station. That's right. I've already seen it twice (gloat!)! Tuesday night was jammed packed, but well worth the wait as I enjoyed every second! Wednesday was especially cute as it was hosted by Necole Bitchie and Kenny Burns, not especially crowded and had the ever-present  ATL  photo opt. Atlanta celebrities including Project Runway's Michael Knight, RHOAtlanta's/ Purple Door Salon's Dwight, and The GlamBar Salon ladies were in the house.

WHY I ADORED THE MOVIE *NO SPOILER*

     In the first film, the four year lapse since the ladies left HBO, the outtacontrol fashion, and Carrie & Big starting their "happily ever after,"were basic yet major points that made for a fluffy, feel-good run. If you swooned over the 1st, you will DIE as the sequel excellently revisits aspects of Carrie's past while exploring the honest complexities of being "newly married." Hell. Married period. Critics of the first film will truly appreciate the second for the realistic ending, better cinematography, and the blatant maturity of all four characters. There was backlash this week against SATC2 for the portrayal of Arabic culture and women in general in the Middle East. While I must do more research on the customs and traditions in Abu Dhabi and in the Middle East in general (no spoiler-plot line deals with Samantha's sexuality being offensive. Shocker.) It even sets the stage for a third film, though there are murmurs that Kim Cattral (Samantha) refuses to play the role ever again. Even if they stop at the sequel, it was a perfect, fun-filled ending to the iconic television/movie/brand.

Also, if you're as large of a fan as I, pick up a copy of The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell  (Sex And The City creator/authoress).
It's Carrie's coming-of-age tale as she navigates senior year of High School. TOO CUTE!! Copped it!! With that, enjoy the SATC2 movie weekend, enjoy your sistah girlfriends, and drink (responsibly) plenty of cosmopolitans in honor of my FAVORITE series!!!***

Venus' T&A Takes Over Tennis Tournament-Not The Best Look!!

             Venus Williams, tennis phenom, businesswoman, and spokesperson, shocked fans, critics and well... everyone, when she played in Sunday's tournament in this revealing outfit at the French Open. *Raises fingers to the temple* Now. I'm all about making a fashion statement, even the most avantgarde  of dress has its place and my support. Venus claims that she was trying to "distract" her opponent Patty Schnider (mission accomplished). Venus won 6-3,6-3 in the first round. However. I have (2) issues with the crimes of fashion committed here.
    The first is that Venus designed this tacky, ill-flattering, material-mishmash! She proudly takes responsibility for the design, fit, and even (especially, sadly) the flesh-toned sport shorts beneath. Chile, the idea to create a lace tennis dress is a cheesy aim at overt sexuality and attention. Seriously?? Average female tennis players, Buffy in the Hamptons per example, likely do not wish to be sexy  sporty, skillful, and sweaty and definitely don't want to mix lace with athletic fibers while on the court.
    The second reason I've issues with Venus' choice of tournament wear is because it is grossly inappropriate?!?! She is the second-greatest tennis champion in the world! Do any of her professional colleges dress like that? No?? So we can asses that her skanky skirt all was not the daum norm. WHY on earth would she want to be immediately viewed in a sexual light, her talent forced to take a backseat-if only for a moment- as she is judged by her gratuitous clothing?? Is it not enough to be a global brand for athletic excellence, have countless honors and awards, hold records and continue your reign as the best in your field? No, she prefers to cling to the stereotype of "Jezebel", opting to sell aspects of her sexuality in what would seem a desperate manor.
     Being more conscientious of non-offensive fashion choices for tournaments, would serve her clothing business better in the long run as more could relate to her as a global brand...but that would be too much like right. If more women were comfortable in their awesome feminine power, there wouldn't be so many examples (Venus) of falling back on the tried-and-true imaging constructs (sexual deviant, Jezebel, "Temptress", etc.) Less aiming to appeal to the sexual approvals ofmen and more confidence being our awesome-selvs without a sexual stigma.

Sex Sells & Pays Well If You're A White Female & On Tape...

*Blogging. Consistantly... this is a concept that is lost with yours truly though I really wish I could be GREAT!! The last week since my birthday I was reaching out for aid to revamp the site (Dawnavette.com) and I blogged not a letter?!?! *GASP* The two readers I had have probably put me down in exile... but I swear I want to be a better writer... so I will press on, in spite of my diminished audience and inconsistant blogging past. (PAST people!!)* Anywho: Let's GET IT!!!

Kendra "Suffering" a la Kim Kardashian Sex Tape

The hot tea today was that E!'s girl (yours & mine too) Kendra Wilkinson will get a cut of the profits from the release of her much publicized and soon-to-be-released sex tape. That's right. The same sex tape that Kendra publicly argued against the release of for several weeks... as now she is a "wife" & "mother". *le sigh* No longer longer a Playmate, Kendra Wilkinson's celebrity began whilst she dated Hugh Hefner and starred as one of his (3) "Girls Next Door" on the wildly popular hit-E! Network reality show. Fast Forward several seasons, a marraige to NFL-er Hank Basket, another E! reality show and a new baby; single-sex tape Kendra is not the same woman. Allgedly her ex boyfriend Justin Frye (who was promoting the tapes release) legally sold the tape(s) for $100,000.00. Kendra negotiated her payment and will receive up to half of the profits from tape distribution. That equates to millions of dollars as the owner of Vivid Video Steven Hirsch (Same company responsible for such sex tape/smut hits as Pamela Anderson, Kim Kardashian & Mindy McCreey) says Kendra's tape will be one of the best-selling of all time. WOW Craig. WOW.
Poor Hank and Hank Jr. At least the family will be paid, which is a great distraction from shame and moral embarassment. I love Kendra's bubbly personality and the fact that she LUVS Black culture (or at least her commercial interpretation of our culture) and the fact she's BFF with (willing to P-Pop in public for) Too-Short. This story gets a WhattheJoeJacksonHell because there are countless whiteheaux that have catapulted their sexcapades (on film) into multi-million dollar empires... but I draw a blank at one Black woman?!?! Seriously: if a Black female crosses into sex tape category, she's labeld a "Ho" and considered as valuable as throwback Jerseys from '98-'02. Not even Supahead has had the branding sucess of Queen Kim Kardashian (almost insulting comparrison) It seems that Black female sexploitation doesn't sell as white female sexploits do, and that... is the real head scratcher.

GO, GO SHAWTY-IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!! 4 Points of Twenty-Sexxxy

  Every year, if blessed to make it one mo' gin, individuals grow excited to celebrate (our ) birthdays!! The one day of the year others are forced to acknowledge your older age, give gifts (optional), but generally everyone supports the day, designated as "yours" for birthday shenanigans. Today is my day!! I'm blessed to turn another twenty-sexxxy (yea RIGHT I'll tell you how quickly I'm decaying) and I'm playing it rather low key. No trips, mega-parties or...well...some of you know it can go DOWN. I'm reflecting and trying to "get my life together" at the moment. In the last year or so I've been struggling to understand and navigate the many pitfalls and life lessons they call "your twenties". More shocking shenanigans than world-domination, there are four initiatives aimed to improve the quality of life I wish to try starting...today. Who's coming with me??

1. "30 Before 30"
Under the influence and example of my bestie Claytus* I created a master list of things I wish to accomplish, places I want to travel, and experiences I wish to have before I turn the big 3-0!! What are the many things you wish to tackle before a major milestone in your life?? See your vision, write it down, make it plain! Now's the time...

2. "Call Me Yogi The Bear"

When I was in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico w. Dr. DD* last month, we met a man who read our palms. Now, he was prolly just a drunken old man in love with some chocolate American young ladies, but he swore I'd live a long time, have poor luck with men (he advised I shouldn't be bothered with searching the man will find ME), and in the meantime should focus on ruling the world... and yoga. ERR?? Funny thing is...I LOVE YOGA!!! I wish I was more disciplined and skilled. Now opposed to wishing, I'm getting more active. We'll see the results of my yoga dedication if I look 25 at 30. #Hmmmmm

3. "Finding MY Secret"

The major lessons I've tried to master in the last few years are patience, gratitude, and purpose. Clearly I've not the fame nor career success I've envisioned I would at this stage in life, but I have so much to be thankful for nonetheless. I tend to rush, covet other lifestyles or demand the blessings of others when I've no clue as to what they have to do to secure that blessing. Wrong. I should graciously appreciate all life has to show, even during the "slow" points. I've yet to master "Staying in MY lane". Two of my FAV LS's* suggested I get familiar with "The Secret", and use the principals to grant me peace.  If I watch VH1-I can try the methods of "The Secret".

4. "Reading Is Essential To My Soul"
I used to be a voracious reader-knocking out 3-4 books a week! I dunno what happened, turning 21, college or reality TV (I blame all), I have dramatically slowed down. The last period I would devour books was Graduate school, and as I know most words to simple commercial rap songs on the radio, the LEAST I could do is devote more energy into expanding my mind with quality literature! A lady can't take over the world if she's uneducated (wink)! SO: I've resolved to cut back on the #WhattheJoeJacksonHell Television programming and read more! I'm even starting a book cipher on this site, right at this moment Craig!! Every moth (30 days) a book will be selected for reading and discussion, just like a normal book club. We can meet in Atlanta, but extend the discussion to the site or Twitter-still must iron out the details. The first book selected, is "If It Takes A Village, Build One" by Malaak Compton-Rock. All about service, ways to identify how you wish to serve and an interactive service guide, what a nice way to begin the Book cipher (a self gratifying hobby) by learning more about helping others. Malaak's example and work through her organizations inspire me and I hope it does the same for others.
*Please feel free to offer up additional names for the Book cipher, and books to read for the month. It's no fun when the homies can't have none! I can't wait to have discussion!!

So, in closing, remember to be thankful everyday, no matter how bad it seems. Trust. I know bad. But you don't have to be here, everyday is a blessing, and some one's hurting worse than you. There's always tomorrow to try and be better, do better, and get it right!! Love ya'll, and stay blessed!!

RIP Legendary Lena: Please Refer To The Instruction Manual

"You have to be taught to be second class. You're not born that way." -Lena Horne 1918-2010

    The world was shocked and saddened to learn that the legendary Lena Horne passed away at the glorious age of 92. Known as the first Black woman to secure a major motion-picture contract, Horne was the blueprint for other Black Hollywood starlets.World-renowned not only for her astounding beauty but her television and Broadway credits as well.

     Lena made history by demanding that she would never play the role of "maid", and was first to be featured in movie advertisements alongside A-list white stars. She always appeared reserved, and full of grace in both her on and off-screen persona, as she realized the responsibility and impact of her media image across the globe. She was often met with opposition and when her movies ran in the South her scenes were often cut out as not to offend white viewers.
      "Mississippi wanted its movies without me," she told the New York Times in 1957. "So no one bothered to put me in a movie where I talked to anybody, where some thread of the story might be broken if I were cut." Notoriously taking hits to her dignity, she persevered in Hollywood grounded in her convictions. She demanded roles with dignity to refute negative connotation and association associated with Black female images in media. In the Washington Post article, film Historian Donald Bogle said the following of Lena Horne's impact on Black female imaging in Hollywood:

"Movies are a powerful medium and always depicted African American women before Lena Horne as hefty, mammy-like maids who were ditzy and giggling," Bogle said. "Lena Horne becomes the first one the studios begin to look at differently . . . Really just by being there, being composed and on-screen with her dignity intact paved the way for a new day" for black actresses.

  Lena's resume is lengthy and filled with accomplishments the pop tarts of today only read much less dream about. Lena Horne leaves a legacy worth studying on how to be iconic. I feel many young Black females in the public spotlight should be more careful with the images they voluntarily present *Can KatStacks read this??*. Realizing that the days of blatant segregation and racial discrimination are not so far away nor have the times changed so dramatically that all Black women have escaped characterization by the actions of one and stereotypes of old. Remember Lena Horne with fond gratitude for all she sacrificed, endured and accomplished, pray for her family during their bereavement, and encourage young people to be familiar with her work.

Nelly vs. Kat Stacks, and MUSIC MONDAY!!!

NELLY:KATSTACKS' LATEST PAWN- [I can't believe I'm reposting this] Nelly took time out of his BUSY schedule to argue with KatStacks Saturday night on the Internet Radio show (sensational even) Shade 45. Brief Background: KatStacks is the latest female to gain attention & capitalize off the strength that she's had sex with D-list rappers. Kat's claim to fame: members of the group Young Money (Who?? Right. Doesn't even matter). Still not clear as to how she's remaining relevant as she's not the most intelligent, articulate nor accurate tea-spiller, but we're now into week #4 and she has a solid fan base (Look for her blog. She's too irrelevant to re-post the link). ANYwho, Kat's tricked Nelly into giving her new life by "lying" on-air about sleeping with him (yawn). What's worse... is that he CALLS IN to indulge her delusions?! Nelly comes off looking childish, they both sounded flustered, and after 2min. of listening I grew bored. For anyone who cares/ workday foolishness: their school yard banter.

I've summed this serving up as #Steamin'hotgarbage, but willing to bet it will be #1 on 106 & Park in NO TIME.

THE GAME RETURNS, DIDDY ON INSIDE THE ACTOR'S STUDIO, & LARRY KING NEWS!!

TINY & TOYA BACK LIKE THEY NEVER LEFT- DAUM.- The ever-popular thorn in BET programming's side, "Tiny and Toya" has returned to the channel for a second season. Now, most of you know, that in spite of the show starring two young Black females, I'd rather attempt taxes than stomach a 30-min. episode. I just don't understand why or how the two are relevant for having sex and getting sperminated by rappers (though I LOVE me some TIP and Weezy). I also can't stand the way they destroy the English language via their "narration". I just cannot suport it, but wish continued success on the nail salons (Tiny) and being BabyMama#32 (Toya). The duo made an appearance on (my fav) Chelsea Lately yesterday and below are a few highlihgts. You know Chelsea was thinking, "WHATTHEJOEJACKSONHELL?!?!?!" the entire time... Let me know if you caught the show!

BREATHING NEW LIFE IN FALL: THE GAME!!- THE GAME IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally, we can all sleep easier as EVERYONE'S FAVORITE BLACK sitcom has officially been picked up by BET and new episodes will debut at the end of the year!!! I'm toooooo excited though the show date and times still have yet to be decided, but the cast will be taping episodes here in Atlanta, and I cannnnot wait!!I was beginning to loathe these "new reality shows", thirsty for scripted plots and talented actors. The show's revival on BET may be the first time a Black show was saved from cancellation to appear on another network...so THANKGAWD!!! I'll be sure to post more updates as they occur!

BRANDY WANTS BLOGGERS TO STOP THE HATE- Although millions tuned into view Brandy's new show starring her immediate family (Sonja, Pops. and Ray J) as well as her laughable lace front wig and exsessive eyebrows, Brandy is still feeling the hate from bloggers. In a note published originally on Vibe.com & posted on Necolebitchie.com, Brandy whomps excessively about the pitfalls of being "talked about" online. Um, pause. But, considering Brandy hasn't had a hit in a MIN, is currently overshadowed in her carreer by her sex-tape/ womanizing younger brother, and we still haven't forgotten about her fatal car accident, daughter and false marriage she parlayed into a reality tv show... shouldn't she be GLAD some bloggers find her relevant at all???!! Anyone?? I swear sometimes celebrities forget that publicity at all is still good publicity, and that should be rule # 1. Look at Kim Kardashian?! 
DIDDY WRAPS "INSIDE THE ACTOR'S STUDIO"- Yesterday, Sean "P. Diddy"/ Take-that Take-That Combs shot his "Inside The Actor's Studio" episode set to air sometime this summer. ITAS is the top-rated Bravo show hosted by James Lipton that gets inside the minds of serious actors. So Diddy was selected because...*Crickets Chirping* Either way, he's a great talent and he gives his first interview after the shoot to MTV (Check the link). He told you he wouldn't stop... (Dylan's somewhere .38 HOTTT)
LARRY KING: FATHER TIME STILL PIMPIN-According to reports on TMZ, Larry King has filed from divorce from his 7th wife Shawn Southwick (8th marraige; re-married one woman twice) today. This was after an allged CRAZY@$$ argument regarding King having sex with Shawn's...sister??! ERRR?!?! WOW. Soooo, even the Super Seniors know about the slide & glide (Sidebar: WHO is boning LArry King?!?!). As the two battle it out in public, currently over the division of their multiple properties... I'll be watching. *Grabs popcorn*.

Today she leaked this video teaser to WSHH... and um... I'm rather saddened that she bothered to sing at all. Monica& Trey Songz announce Tour- According to Sandra Rose, the two have already teamed up for smaller shows in smaller citites to gain a feel for each other as well as audience reception. Also, they will begin a major tour this summer, this on the eve of her successful debut of "Still Standing" and his relentless promtotion of... HIMSELF-including a new reality show, upcoming album, and constant radio domination. WOW. Which one of ya'll... which one of ya'll are buying tickets???!!!

DIGGY IS A REAL RAPPER, WITH A DEAL!!-Yesterday the Internet was buzzing that  15-year old Diggy Simmons, was officially signed to Atlantic records! This is fresh off of his wildly popular single relase last week, "Flo Stoooopid" (Posted last Thursday). Congrats to the young man, a hard-working, innovative, fashion forward and talented individual! The news def. broke on Twitter, and yesterday's TwitterTopic was #JoJoMustfeellike (Filling out college applications). We can't all be Jay-Z JoJo. LOL. JUST JOKES!! DWTS: MY TOP PICS- Last night the (2) hour premiere of DWTS aired on ABC live, and had several "suprise" celebrites to watch this season (if you care). 1. Chad OchoCinco-Looking like MR. CHOCOLATE DELICIOSO has rhythm to spare but should clean it up a bit. He's sooo sexy to watch though. 2. Pamela Anderson-who still looks like sex in sequince entertained while sexxing it up last night (Can you believe she's still got it??) 3.Niecy Nash-How cute did she look boppin' around with more sass and comedy than skill? THE FEMALE NOORWOODS- Yesterday NecoleBitchie posted new pics of Entertainer Brandy, her mom-ager, and daughter S'rai.  I took notice (along with several other commenters) on how large the little girl looks at such a young age and feel her mother, Brandy (anyone else remember that car accident/ murder of hers?) should better monitor her healthy food intake and excercise. Howevs, there was an onslaught of backlash claiming to just leave the "child" alone and she'll eventually "thinn out". Seriously? If anyone recalls the child's father (Rodney Jerkins' Brother) is built like a linebacker?! Granted child health should be the parent's repsonsiblity till of age, but if S'rayi is not careful she will be obese, and spend her 30's complaining of poor health issues and constant weight gain. Newsflash: Obesity will be the #1 killer in AMERICA BY 2019 and it's NO SECRET which generation this will affect?! Our people are so quick to defend what's blatantly wrong... obesity is NOT WHAT'S UP?!?! (I need a t-shirt that screams this). I want the cycle of approving unhealthy behavior to cease, and switch the focus on HEALTHY eating, abundance of excersie and education. The truth shoudn't always offend... it should empower and promote change. *Done with rant*
LAST TRAIN TO PARIS LISTENING PARTY- Last night in Los Angeles, Diddy (and Cappricorn) hosted an exclusive listening party for his album, Last Train To Paris which drops early June. My "Key To The City" Connect-QDEEZY was in the building and reported that the party was nice, and that cd is surprisingly filled with several hits described as "Black pop music". A slew of celebrities (and celeb-u-nots) were also present, Klohe and Lamar (I LOVE THEM), Chris Rock, Ron Artest, Ray J, Poprah and Young Berg (WTJJH?!). Thanks Q for today's SPOTTED!!

PORN STAR ATTEMPT @ EXTORTION: TIGER STYLE (AGAIN)!!

Early this morning the Internet, Twitter and blogs were buzzing non-stop once Tiger Woods' ex-mistress took to the web to publish the extensive, and sexually graphic text messages she received from the scorned golfer. Texts that infer Tiger's large penis size, his vice for pain during sex, and allegedly "Golden Showers". Seriously?! SERIOUSLY!! Veronica Siwik-Daniels, also known as Joslyn James, alleges that she believed she was in an "exclusive" three-year relationship with Woods (other than his WIFE?!?!) and that she even quit her full-time job as a porn-star to curtail Woods' jealous streak. WHAT was she smoking?!?! The text postings in-full were removed from the Internet earlier (www.sextingjoslynjames.com) but I managed to find some from TMZ.com & Sandra Rose. Some excerpts of the "freaky" texts Woods sent to James:

-OK, I would like to have a threesome with you and another girl you trust.
- I want to treat you rough, throw you around, spank and slap you
- Have you ever had a golden shower done to you? … just morbid curiosity.
- You are my f**king whore. Hold you down while I choke you.

While I don't understand the motives behind releasing such personal information post-his public apology and media fall out circa 2009, I loose all respect when James alleged that Woods has yet to "take responsibility for his behavior". Um, excuse me, miss... but YOU were a "Jumpoff". A messy and disloyal one at THAT?! WHAT responsibility does Woods have to you other than sex, payment (surely she was paid both directly and indirectly) and sex?!?! I swear these women are a bit delusional if they expected more or that the public would take further interest in their stories outside of the freaky sex information. Only Kim Kardashian has had ridonkulous success which began with her Jumpoff status and peaked post-sex-tape release... the formula should NOT be followed. SMDH.
Clearly Woods is maintaining his iron-clad discussions with the press and has returned to his family and rehab center. He's still slated to play in this year's PGA Tournament... so it's safe to assume... Woods has no love for these H**s. I wish they'd get the memo and think of different ways to remain relevant.

-If you read into her "Body Language", it would appear that Pink is making fun of Beyaki during a live performance of "Stupid Girls". -So earlier in the week pictures circulated on multiple blogsites of Portland Trailblazer's own Greg Oden's penis. Yes... seems like yet another wave of nudie pics, as taken by Greg and sent to his "lady friend" over 8 months ago, surfaced. In reality, the "lady friend" scorned decided to shop the photos around for $$$$. Yesterday, Oden issued an apology statement. "I would like to apologize to everybody: Portland, the fans, the organization, it was very embarrassing." Did Kim Kardashian teach us ANYThing?!?! Oden, I'm surprised such a young guy would fall prey to such an old tactic: sexting/ sext pics. BOOOO!! Upgrade to a more creative activity or a woman with better discretion. JEEZ.

HOPE FOR HAITI NOW!!! STILL THE BEST TELETHON EVER!!!!!

-If you missed the televised Hope for Haiti Now Telethon that aired Friday night on EVERY major network, you missed what could arguably be considered the best telethon ever. Filled-to-the brim with A-list celebrities and performers, it was a two-hour heart gripping night in television for the best purpose- raising funds for Haiti. Artists including Sting, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Bono, Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson to name a few, touched a global audience to give and raised an estimated $57million and counting! The singles from the telethon are available for download at itunes (my FAV songs were Sting's Driven to Tears and J.Timberlake's rendition of Hallelujah) and officially just topped the Billboard Charts.  You can still donate to the cause for the next six months. Please give all you can to support Haiti!!!!!!!!

One of my FAVORITE female artists EVER, has just dropped her second studio release, The SEA!!! The melodic and soothing voice that is Corrine's received Grammy's, critical and commercial success in 2008 ("Put Your Records On", "Trouble Sleeping"). ALL-WHITE BBALL, A VIOLENT G, and IN CASE U MISSED OPRAH,

AN ALL-WHITE BASKETBALL LEAGUE IS FIGHTING FOR CREDIBILITY
-This week, the official press release from the All American Basketball Alliance (AABA) was made public, and the recent announcement shocked...well...most. The AABA is  organization is starting a solely all-Caucasian basketball league. Yes. whites-only, and the organization is  looking for 12 major cities (of COURSE he's considering ATL?!) to host teams (get on board with the idea). The inaugural season is slated to begin in June, 2010. Whatthejoejacksonhell???!!!!???
AABA Commissioner, Don "Moose" Lewis stated,
"There's nothing hatred about what we're doing," he said. "I don't hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here's a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like."
Lewis pointed out his desire to emphasize "fundamental basketball" instead of "street-ball" played by "people of color." "Moose" even referenced the recent embarrassments of NBA superstars such as Gilbert Arenas (suspension for bringing handgun into locker-room/ place of business) as examples of frequent dissatisfaction with the current NBA roster.
"Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?" "Moose" said. "That's the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction."
He continued,  "People will come out and support a product they can identify with. I'm the spoken minority right now, but if people will give us a chance, it'll work... The white game of basketball, which is essentially a fundamental game, works."

Considering that Black athletes aren't the dominate majority in any sport other than Basketball, as well as the parallels to modern-slavery that exist within professional sporting arenas, it is indeed insulting that a man dubbing himself "Moose", would continue to try and get this blatantly racist league approved?! There are so many ignorant layers to this story, from the outlandish requirements for eligibility, "Only natural born US citizens with both parents of Caucasian race" to the reasoning behind the racist exclusivity, "the white game of basketball...a fundamental game". If ever there was a reminder of the deeply racist sentiments that (Still) prevail in our everyday dealings, this is one. Thank you oh Grand Wizard "Moose" Lewis for jarring our memories to the reasoning and need for minority leagues, organizations, and groups that work to promote inclusion and equal recognition within a Western society.

WHEN KEEPIN' IT REAL GOES TOO WRONG: G'S TO GENTS VERSION

-So yesterday ATL was abuzz that ex-reality tv star Markice "Kesan" Moore, formerly of MTV's "G's to Gents" fame, turned himself in after being on the run and on the Cobb County Most Wanted list. He is recently charged for the alleged abuse his 1-year-old infant daughter as she's suffering from two broken arms, a broken leg, 3 broken ribs, a broken clavicle bone, and multiple bruises. 
Though Kesan denied responsibility for all the charges of abuse against his daughter, he did admit to breaking her wrist post a fall from her bed... (side eye). He called into local Atlanta radio station V103 yesterday afternoon, and has since turned himself in. Kesan posted bail for $20,000.00 and is awaiting a court date. WOW. How in the world does one get involved in such MESS?!?! I will be praying for the recovery and safety of the little girl. Jesus... take the WHEEL!!!!

-Yesterday Oprah taped/ premiered her Haiti relief episode which featured live performances from Princess RiRi and Maxwell.

-Martin Lawrence is executive producing a new comedy on TVOne staring Tatyana Ali (Fresh Prince Of Bel Air) and the show aired nightly all this week. I've heard not a PEEP about the show (reviews, raves or otherwise) which is abnormal. I flipped past the closing credits the other night... so has anyone seen it?? Anyone?? ANYONE?! *Crickets Chirping*
